East Mount Barren
East Mount Barren
This photo composite combines photography and painting created with gouache as the background.
The elements have been digitally combined, blended and layered to portray an impressionistic, textured and painterly presence in the work.

Of all the photos I took whilst visiting Fitzgerald River National Park only one captured the visual impact East Mount Barren had on me. The ancient silent mountain with the strange but beautiful Royal Hakea and creature-like Showy Banksias growing in the foreground (both plants endemic only to this unique area).
With this photo I was determined to turn its realism into the prehistoric wonderland I saw before me (in my mind). Standing there, I felt like time had stood still, untouched by humans and the wilderness engulfed me in its depths of mystery.
